Countdown until our wedding!

More Updates!

Dearest Kimmy (and the one other person who might come across my blog),

The wedding is quickly approaching and thank goodness we have gotten some stuff done because I had my doubts for a while there! This past weekend, we finished up the invitations and sent them out on Monday. My mom and I also went to David’s Bridal on Monday and I now have my slip and my veil. I am planning on finding some shoes next Saturday because my first fitting is on June 11!

Last week, my mom, Jimmy and I went to the Holiday Inn for our tasting. I swear, every time I go in there and look around and meet with our coordinator, Sabrina, I feel more confident we booked the best place to have our wedding. They have been so accommodating since the very beginning. Absolutely everything we have wanted to do, they have given us the okay. Anyway, back to the tasting…it was amazing. First we got to order drinks, which we were pretty excited for because it had been a long day. Next, they brought out the appetizers. We sampled three of them, but only really loved two, so we added those two to our order. Next, they brought out all four meals we are offering. I, of course, only was able to try the vegetarian, BORING! But, Jimmy and my mom loved the other meals! I think they said their favorite was the filet, which was wrapped with bacon and topped with hollandaise sauce. Even the potatoes/rice and vegetables were so good! We were just so pleased when we left there. I remember when we were first booking the HI and Sabrina told us our tasting would probably take place 2-3 months before the wedding…it seemed so far away, but it bit us in the butt like everyone said it would.

Yesterday, my mom and I met with our florist and came up with some really good ideas for the centerpieces and bouquets. She is going to order some flowers in and make some mock ones up on Tuesday. I was on the fence about having flowers or just candles as centerpieces. Monday night, I printed out a bunch of pictures of flowers that I have been saving since we got engaged and both my mom and our florist, Ingrid loved the one that Jimmy and I had chosen as our favorite centerpiece. So, looks like we’re going with flowers! I can’t wait to see the example she does it. Ingrid is amazing. She has such wonderful ideas and I completely trust everything that she says about what colors/flowers will look good with what.

Tomorrow night we are going to taste our cupcakes. We are so excited! Back on Valentine’s Day, Jen and Matt stopped over after dinner and brought us these phenomenal cupcakes that Jenny had made from scratch. I called this woman, Amy from Angel’s Cakes to see if she would be willing to make our cupcakes with our recipe. I wasn’t sure if anyone would be into this since I’m sure some like to stick to their own recipes. Well, she was willing to do it and we get to try them tomorrow night!

It’s really amazing how overwhelming it can feel when planning a wedding or any big party. But, what I’ve discovered is that once you start doing stuff…stuff gets done. It works like a charm- every time!

Updates

Since the last time I posted, we have gotten a few wedding related things accomplished. We ordered the flower girl's dresses, decided on a rehearsal dinner spot, booked the hair and make-up person, decided on the time of the ceremony, had our first meeting with the florist, ordered Jimmy's wedding band, booked the videographer and tomorrow we are going to order my wedding band. We still have decisions to make and stuff to do, but we think we're pretty well on track and it's really excited we're down to less than five months!!

The Girl's Dresses

We all decided on a dress, woo hoo! Everyone loves the same one, so we are going with it. It's so exciting when you can put a little check mark on your list of things to do. All of the girls are going to look so beautiful in their dresses and I'm so excited that they can really and truly wear them again! I have the best bridesmaids in the world and I am so lucky that they all agreed to be in my wedding!

Aruba

We booked our honeymoon this past week! We are so excited to have that taken care of. We are going to the Divi Aruba (the same place Jen and Matt went for their honeymoon!) for 7 nights. Our package includes all of our food and drinks at 9 restaurants and 7 bars. It also includes a bottle of champagne and dinner at a restaurant literally on the beach one night. We cannot wait to pick out our excursions! Personally, I could sit on the beach for the full eight days and do nothing, but I think Jimmy might go stir crazy...

Ring Bearer

I'm sure most of you have heard by now that we had to put Spike down on Friday. He was diagnosed with cancer a little over two weeks ago and it progressed much faster than we had expected. It was one of the hardest things we have ever been through and it will take time to heal, but we both know it was the right decision. We are incredibly sad that Spike will not be part of our wedding day, but we are happy that we had so many wonderful years with him. Many say that dogs who are rescued are lucky to have people who want them and love them, but Jimmy and I believe that we are the lucky ones. We feel blessed that Spike was a part of our lives, that he allowed us to love him and that he loved us back so unconditionally. In all of our years with him, he never got upset with us, never passed judgement, never thought a bad thought about us. He was a part of our family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, loved him. There truly aren't enough words that I could use to describe how much he meant to us, he was our best friend and we will miss him so much.

Honeymoon

Jimmy and I are pretty sure we picked our honeymoon spot today. We are going to Aruba and we are trying to decide between two resorts, but it looks like its going to be the Divi Aruba. Here's the link if you want to check it out! http://www.diviaruba.com/index.php It's so exciting to have this part of the wedding picked out. Neither one of us has ever been somewhere tropical. The only place we have ever flown together was to New York City, so we knew no matter where we went, we would have a blast! Plus, this is coincidentally the same spot Jen and Matt went on their honeymoon, so we know it will be amazing!
